Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an aspect of traditional eastern medicine that is used to balance the flow of energy in the body, otherwise known as qi (pronounced “chee”).  It is believed that pathways called meridians allow this energy to flow through the body.  Acupuncture involves inserting thin, sterile needles through the skin along the meridians to balance one’s qi.  Balancing one’s qi is believed to help treat pain and improve general well being.  Before treatment begins, your practitioner will evaluate your symptoms and lifestyle to determine the best approach for you.  Needles will be inserted at different depths along the body’s meridians, and sometimes are manipulated gently after insertion.  The needles typically remain for 10-20 minutes while you relax, before they are removed.  Acupuncture may help with alleviating general body pain, joint pain, headaches, and improve sleep.
